[9:31 AM EDT - Punched in the face.]

For those keeping track, I have finally got back to pruning my music library and am down to 4486 songs now. I need MJNL's input to go through her list of songs. She has collected quite a set from her friends and there is some overlap (like the pop and top 40 stuff) but her tastes lean more towards rap and R&B while mine lean more towards dance and adult contemporary. (Oh yes, and my anime and soundtrack collection.)

Oh yes, so the reason for the post. Well, MJNL and I have been taking boxing lessons. We started a couple of months ago and MJNL really likes it. It is one of the few sports that we both seem to enjoy, so we try to make it out as often as possible. Well, we missed the last month of classes due to various reasons and were worried that we would start back at square one, but we did not suffer as badly as we thought we would.

During one of the exercises, we were punching each others' gloves. She had her glove in front of her face for one punch and got smacked. Well, that night, she was complaining how I punched her in the face, and I told her not to hold her fist in front of her face next time or she would punch herself. To which she replied,

"Oh yeah? Let me show you!"

At which point she put my right hand in front of my face and proceeded to punch it.

I resisted the first punch but the second one pushed my fist into my nose. I then had a runny nose, so I got some facial tissue to blow it. When the mucus came out a lot darker than expected (the lights were off), I realized that she gave me a nose bleed! Pre-spousal abuse I say!

*shakes fist*

[Sunday, April 10, 2011: A day downtown.]

MJNL and I had planned to go rock climbing with Growly and EG this afternoon, but we had slept in so late and were so sore that we decided (after I realized that we could also go on Sunday) to go tomorrow and take advantage of the nice weather today.

The plan was to go downtown, break fast at Burrito Bandidos, check out Honest Ed's (MJNL had never been there), look for Farmers of the Moor at the Gameshack, head back uptown to Dufflet Pastries & Demarco-Perpich, and then figure out something for dinner.

Then we decided to throw in a visit to the Tim Burton exhibit at the TIFF Bell Lightbox, and go to the Dufflet Pastries downtown, and then figure out something for dinner.

So that was the plan.

Actually we did follow it pretty closely.

Because of the nice weather, and all of the locales we were planning to hit, we took the bike. We got to Burrito Bandidos and had a very tasty halibut burrito and a shrimp and chicken burrito. We ate at the establishment, which has a tiny, tiny sitting area, when some homeless looking person came in and sat down next to us.

Oh the smell.

I already have a weak stomach, and my current issues with keeping my food down is not helped by nauseous odours while I am trying to eat. In addition, this person went to the utensil rack, pulled out a fork, sat down (I did not see what he was doing), and then put it back! MJNL, who was affixed to the Onion articles posted on the cork board, had grabbed a knife and fork (I did not know which) to finish off the last of her burrito. I had to give her a look and a quick head shake many times before she used her hands. What could I say? The guy was beside me. (Yes, simple Cantonese would have sufficed I realize. But this was near Chinatown, he could have picked up some.)

In any case, after we filled up on burritos, we wandered into Honest Ed's for a look-see.

"It's like a large dollar store."

MJNL commented. Yeah, I guess it is similar, but they do sell just about everything.

Since we were in the area, and exited on Markham street, I dragged MJNL into Suspect Video since it had been years since I had last visited. The place has not changed much, except the VHS tapes have all been replaced by DVDs. The anime section has been chopped somewhat: I guess due to the easier access to this material, they have focused on more rare titles?

Our next stop was to Gameshack, which did not have the Farmers of the Moor expansion. They did have the The Goodies expansion, but forty dollars for 'meeples'? *scoff*

On our way back to the bike, we passed by a Mind Games store, which did have Farmers of the Moor. The price, however, was not worth what I was getting out of it, considering that I was probably the only one who would appreciate the extra dimension added to the game.

We then rode to Dufflet Pastries and as we were slowly working our way through traffic, I saw the Silver Snail and recalled that the store was going to be moving! So after we scarfed down our Cappuccino Dacquoise and Hazelnut Dacquoise, we headed back (through the even worse traffic) and wandered through the store for a bit.

It had been quite a number of years since I had been inside last, perhaps a decade? The place did look like it did before, except now it had more comics, because of the better shelving.

Next was to check out the Tim Burton exhibit, which seemed quite a popular attraction. The tickets we picked up allowed entrance at 7:30 PM. Seeing that it was only six, we went to ask if we could line up, and the volunteer told us that we had to wait until later. MJNL asked if we could come back for seven, and she agreed, except she said something about seven-thirty as we were walking away. We tried to keep ourselves occupied by looking around the building. The gift shop did not have all that much that interested me, and we went upstairs to look for a place to sit down. We asked one of the volunteers for locations to rest, and she mentioned that there were "cubes" we could use upstairs. So we went upstairs, and found the Bell Blue Room. The room had a nice view of the neighborhood, and had comfy chairs, except that we found out that it was a member's only venue! How did we not know? Well, the sign in front of the room was blocked by people as we were passing by, so I had no idea. Also, the volunteer (who probably did not know anything, or just could not explain well) told us that we could go up there. (I had no idea what she meant by "cubes".)

In any case, the lady who approached us was nice enough to let us sit there while she made her pitch about becoming a member. We also got some brochures and pamphlets to look through.

We stayed up there until it was around seven, at which point we headed back down to line up. So apparently there was some sort of miscommunication. There was actually a second line outside in addition to the line inside, which we were not aware of, and we had already checked our jackets. To make a long story short, I waited outside while MJNL got our jackets, and when she finally got them, we were let back inside where we had to return our coats and stood in line again.

The exhibit was interesting. Tim Burton has some strange ideas, and an interesting sense of humor. We could not take any pictures inside, but we probably could have taken some photos outside. Ah well, we finished off the exhibit was a showing of 'Hansel and Gretel' which was weird in a number of ways like: Why were they all East Asian?

We finished off the night with a dinner at Big Daddy's. We had some oysters, and shared a platter. It has been a while since we ate there, and it was tasty as usual!
