[8:07 AM EDT - iTunes reduction and network gripes.]

A few weeks ago, when I updated the OS on my iPad, I decided to upload my song collection to the device. I had over 27 GB of stuff, and I realized that I only listen to about 5% of the songs.. maybe. (Technically I listened to 0% of the songs because I do not listen to music, but hey.)

My collection has been collected over the past decade and a half, and is an eclectic mishmash from various people I have stolen from: weirD, Dangerman, MJO, MJNL, KM, etc. But 5700 songs seemed excessive to me, and annoying to sift through on the iPad, so I have been pruning.

The first main hurdle was to get titles and artists for all of the songs. I decided to use iTunes to go through the list and realized that about a third of my songs did not have tags. Worse than that, about ten percent had corrupted tags! (All of the tags had only one character - how did that happen?)

Fortunately, I found a free program (mp3tag) that made tagging easier since the song and artist names were basically in the filename. Mostly. (What the heck and I going to do with all of the Japanese songs?)

There were also duplicates. Seems like everyone listens to Coldplay.

I figured that if I can get rid of thirty songs a day, I should be done by.. the summer?

Good lord this will take a long time!

So I have been listening to more mixed music on my computer this past few weeks than I have this past decade! I am at 5183 songs, but realized that I do not recognize most of the Arcade Fire I have, so.. 5177. Half of these came from MJNL, so I'll need her input for those guys.

Oh weird, Backbeat by the Art of Noise sounds like music from Star Control 2!

In any case, while I have been sitting here clicking the delete button, I have been trying to figure out solutions to the networking issues that have been bothering me:

  1. My DHCP server does not properly apply the DNS for computers on the network.
  2. My wireless bridge keeps dropping it's connection.
  3. My media player does not allow access to the connected USB hard drives.

I believe that solutions for all three may be out reach for me.

For the first one, I may be out of luck. This is a little annoying, but I can work around it for now. (I have been working around it for years now.)

For the second, I need to take a closer look, because my other wireless devices have no problem connecting to the router, so I am not sure what the issue is. I even moved the routers closer together with no difference. I was going to return the wireless bridge but discovered that I am a few days past the return date. Bah!

For the third, I think I am SOL again.

Bah!
