[Monday, June 6, 2011: Ride for the Blues.]

This weekend MJNL and I went down to Woodbine Park to check out the 7th Annual Waterfront Blues. We met up with YR and JR and we all went down to the park together. The weather was not the best: it was a bit chilly when the sun was covered. So we only stayed for about an hour before heading back. We did end up getting some free samples of food down at the PC tent. We also bumped into BL and AL while we were down there.

Sunday was the Ride for Heart and the difference in the weather was like night and day. The morning temperatures were high enough that I did not to wear any layers, although it did start to get warm near the end of the ride. MJNL was not able to go, and Werdna bowed out the day before, but Derelict, JW, AO and one of MJNL's co-workers MF came with her friend J, so we did have a respectable group participating. Furthermore, we all showed up early or on time! (For once.)

I hung back with the girls at the beginning. But after we had gotten past the Ex grounds I decided to see where everyone else was. I sped forward and found AO not too far ahead, who told me that Derelict and JW had gone on ahead. So I pushed forward. I had to stop at the first food station because I had skipped breakfast that morning. Those orange slices tasted so good! (I needed the sugar.)

I got to the turnaround after about an hour of biking but did not see any sign of Derelict or JW so I decided to wait there for the rest of the group to catch up. It took about half an hour. We also got stuck there for a while as they were doing stuff. Just as were leaving the rest stop, we got a message from Derelict that they had just finished. Doh.

Well, there was no point in me rushing as we had to wait for the rest of the group anyway, so I rode with them the rest of the way down. Along the way, I saw a couple of girls on the side staring at me so I stared back. They then started waving and told me that they needed help. I'm like "Really? That's how you call for help?". Whatever. I stopped and rode back to where they were. Apparently one of the girls' bikes had a problem with the chain. They have been trying to wave down help but nobody had stopped until now. (So many riders, so few helpers.) In any case, the chain had fallen off the gears and it took about a minute to fix. That was long enough to lose sight of the group so I had to pick up the pace to catch up with them.

Just as I caught up, I got a call on my phone, so I had to stop and check it, which caused me to lose sight of them again. But no worry, I caught up again, eventually. The rest of the ride was fairly uneventful, but the weather was very nice for riding. I had lunch with JW, AO and MF and MJNL came down to join us. The timing was pretty good actually as we all got together at the restaurant more or less at the same time. It took forever to get our food and bill however, and they got our order wrong as well..

When we got home, I slept for the rest of the day and most of the night. I was pretty much beat.
