Overview

Born from the Blazing Inferno project, the Clan engineers realized that the Rifleman was a more ideal chassis with which to base this design on. By moving the PPCs from the torsos to the arms and dropping the lower arm actuators, the Rifleman IIIC is able to flip both arms to fire all four extended range PPCs into it's rear arc. Any light 'Mech foolish enough to close with the 'Mech from behind would be met with a surprise welcome from all four PPCs before being annihilated.

Although originally designed to provide fire support and used as an anti-aircraft unit, the Rifleman IIIC has garnered a considerable following amongst the ranks and is a welcome addition to any unit.

Capabilities

The four extended range PPCs provide the 'Mech with massive long range firepower and is deadly at all ranges. With thirty-one double heatsinks to remove the tremendous heat buildup from the PPCs, coupled with the nineteen tons of Omnium Heavy armor, the Rifleman IIIC is quite well equipped to handle most situations and confrontations.

The Falcon's Eye targeting system allows the pilot to easily track and target multiple land and air units. The head mounted active probe coupled with the Falcon's Eye provides the mechwarrior with access to considerable real time tactical information and gives this 'Mech a substantial advantage in combat.

Variants

A couple of variants were developed to improve on specific areas of weakness for the Rifleman.

The first variant replaces one of the PPCs in each arm with a large pulse laser. This reduces the overall heat generation, which allowed five heat sinks to be dropped from the 'Mech. The extra space and weight was devoted to a targeting computer, housed in the right torso. Despite losing some firepower, the combination of the accuracy of the large pulse lasers coupled with the targeting computer made this variant much more deadly at close combat, while retaining dangerous long range firepower.

The second variant replaces all of the PPCs with extended range large lasers. As these lasers were smaller and lighter than the PPCs, it too allowed a targeting computer to be installed in the right torso cavity of the 'Mech. In addition, another large laser was installed in an over-the-shoulder mount on the right torso. As with the first variant, the total firepower of this 'Mech is less than the original version, but the slightly longer range of the lasers coupled with the targeting computer makes this variant quite deadly at long range combat.
